A few weeks ago, I got to adventure to Somerset to shoot with the incredible soul that is Miriam, founder of Moon Body.

We’d planned to shoot at sunrise and were both really feeling into the seasonal connection. We wanted the hues on the landscape turning oranges and reds. So we both put our trust in nature and the alchemy of the moment, that all would come into being. When I went to bed it was cloudy but when I woke up and looked out the window, I almost screamed with joy. The sky was completely clear and I could see Venus dazzling in the sky!

As I drove to meet Miriam, the actual dream of dreams was coming true. There was the most AMAAAAAZING fog laying across the Somerset Levels. As we parked, we hiked up a hill through the fog and found ourselves above it. It was as if we were on a cloud, the sunrise above the fog, bringing the most amazing light to create with. It was an utterly beautiful and connected time together. And as I chatted with Miriam, I felt such a deep connection to her work and so it is my absolute joy to bring you a conversation with her today.

So Miriam, it is great to chat with you today. Could you introduce yourself and share some insight into the work that you do?

Thanks love. I’m a mentor for spiritual women with a focus on menstruation and sexuality. I do this work via digital courses, in-person retreats, workshops and 1-1 and group mentoring. I’m a huge lover of all things land, woman and the body. I’ve just moved back to my place of birth, near Glastonbury, England, after 10 years travelling the world, pursuing all kinds of study and practice. I’ve just made an enormous amount of blackberry jam.

You are so deeply aligned to nature and your innate wisdom flows from you. What has been the most profound thing for you in rooting this connection to source and spirit?

Coming into deeper connection with my womb as my centre showed me the ways in which I am nature; I am an extension of the land. My menstrual cycle guides me through the seasons and life-death-rebirth phases every month. This knowing has brought me back to what is real and true. I’m no longer very interested in ascending or becoming enlightened through spiritual practice! I want to grow food, offer my blood back to the same tree and plants in my garden every month and get my hands in the mud. That, to me, is all the wisdom I need.

I see you as someone who has experienced 'the awakening', knowing that linear growth of capitalism isn't sustainable, that patriarchy must be disrupted and that we're in an end-phase with the systems and structures that are harming people and planet. I adore your spirit. You have walked life's journey on your own terms outside of 'normal life'. How does this bring alchemy to the work you do and fire up your why?

I’ve always been an edge-walker and experienced a lot of exile in my life for rejecting the distorted ways of the modern world and choosing my own path. This has given me great compassion for others who, like me, are unable to function under these life-destroying systems. These are my people. And finding community, sisters, friends and re-establishing my understanding of the more-than human world keep me connected to my ‘why’.

We're both so seasonally connected and we're moving into autumn with Samhain approaching. How are you holding space for women to gather to connect in with the wisdom of the season?

I have some beautiful offerings coming up for the season. On October 16th I’m offering a 3-hour online workshop for women on the Witch Wound. It’s about the way that the persecution of women for witchcraft throughout the ages caused a painful psychic wounding and the ways that we can digest and heal it. Then on the weekend before Samhain, October 29 & 30, I’m hosting a virtual gathering called ‘Witch’. It’s all about restoring the Witch as a sacred feminine archetype. We have amazing talks, workshops and guest speakers. It’s going to be a beautiful way to celebrate this special time of year together.

What will your own Samhain celebration look like?

Bonfires, friends, family, scotch whiskey, kitchen witchery and ritual.

What is on the horizon for you for the rest of the year and into 2023? And how can folk work with you?

I’m running my online course Dark Feminine Medicine for the 3rd year, starting on the Winter Solstice. DFM is a 7-week underworld journey, passing through 7 gates of initiation, guided by 7 dark goddesses. It’s a powerful companion for witchy women as they move through the darkest time of the year. Next year I have two week-long women’s retreats in southern Italy (May and August).
