Hospitality Photography FAQs
Choosing the right photographer is about more than finding someone who can create beautiful images
The most effective hospitality photography helps future guests understand not only what a place looks like, but how it feels to stay there.
Below are some of the questions I am most frequently asked by accommodation providers, boutique hotels, retreat venues and tourism businesses.
What is hospitality photography?
Hospitality photography is the creation of professional visual content for accommodation providers, hotels, guest houses, holiday cottages, retreats, restaurants and visitor experiences.
While traditional property photography focuses on documenting spaces, hospitality photography explores the wider guest experience. It combines interiors, exteriors, food and drink, local experiences, atmosphere and storytelling to help future guests imagine themselves there.
The strongest hospitality photography creates an emotional connection before a booking is ever made.
What photography does a boutique hotel need?
The answer depends on your audience, positioning and marketing goals, but most boutique hotels benefit from a combination of:
- Exterior photography
- Interior photography
- Bedroom photography
- Food and drink photography
- Lifestyle imagery
- Guest experience photography
- Local area photography
- Drone photography
- Seasonal storytelling content
- Short-form video content
Many hotels already have photographs of their rooms. What is often missing is imagery that captures atmosphere, personality and the feeling of staying there.
Guests don’t book a room because of thread count alone. They book because they can imagine themselves waking up there, watching the sunrise from the terrace, sharing dinner with friends or exploring the surrounding landscape.
Those emotional connections are where storytelling becomes powerful.
Why is storytelling important in hospitality marketing?
Before anything is chosen, it’s felt.
People rarely choose accommodation based on facilities alone. They choose places that evoke a feeling.
Storytelling helps guests understand the atmosphere, values and experiences that make a place unique. It creates familiarity, trust and emotional connection long before a booking is made.
When people can imagine themselves within a story, they are far more likely to take the next step.
Where do you work?
I am based in Ramsgate on the Kent coast and work throughout the UK and internationally.
Recent projects have taken me across coastlines, islands, national landscapes, hospitality venues and destinations where stories of people, place and planet intersect.
How much does hotel photography cost?
Every project is different and pricing depends on the scale of the accommodation, the type of content required and how the imagery will be used.
A boutique hotel requiring photography, video and drone content across multiple days will have different needs to an independent holiday cottage looking to refresh its website imagery.
Most commissions include far more than the time spent photographing. Research, planning, travel, storytelling, image selection, editing, colour grading, delivery and licensing all form part of the process.
Rather than offering fixed packages, I create tailored hospitality photography proposals based on your goals, audience and intended use of the content.
If you’re considering a hospitality photography project, I’d be happy to discuss your requirements and provide a bespoke quote.
What is a storytelling stay?
A storytelling stay is my signature approach to accommodation photography.
Rather than arriving for a few hours and documenting a property, I stay on site and experience the accommodation as a guest would.
This immersive approach allows me to capture the rhythms of a stay across changing light, weather and experiences. Early mornings, golden evenings, seasonal details, meals, walks, swims, local adventures and quiet moments all become part of the visual story.
The result is a richer, more authentic collection of hospitality photography and video that reflects the complete guest experience rather than simply the physical space.
Storytelling stays are particularly effective for:
- Boutique hotels
- Retreat venues
- Luxury holiday cottages
- Glamping sites
- Nature-based accommodation
- Destination-led hospitality businesses
By experiencing a place through guests’ eyes, I can create visual stories that help future guests feel connected before they arrive.
Do you offer photography, video and drone services together?
Yes. Many hospitality clients choose a combination of photography, video and drone content to create a cohesive visual library that can be used across websites, social media, PR, email marketing and advertising campaigns.
Working with a single storyteller across all formats often creates a more consistent visual identity and a smoother production process.
How do I enquire about hospitality photography?
Every hospitality photography project begins with a conversation.
Whether you’re planning a rebrand, launching a new venue, refreshing your marketing assets or exploring a storytelling stay, we can discuss your goals and create a proposal tailored to your accommodation, audience and ambitions.
