Case Study – Lil & Dot England
Where the hand-drawn meets the handmade: a launch shoot rooted in nature and intention
Visual storytelling for nature-inspired, purpose-led lifestyle brands

UK-based brand of hand-drawn,
nature-inspired homewares
Overview
Every piece Heather creates at Lil & Dot England begins as a hand drawing. Ferns, daisies, clover, birdsong. Patterns born from slowing down and paying attention to the natural world. Her brand is named after her two grandmothers. Her designs grew from a tiny shaded garden where she taught herself to notice what most people walk past, and you can see that quality of attention in every piece she makes.
Lil & Dot England is a UK-based brand of hand-drawn, nature-inspired homewares: cushions, throws, tea towels, aprons, luxury silk accessories and wallpaper, all designed for calm, comfort and everyday living. Each pattern begins as original artwork before it becomes the fabric of someone’s home.
When someone’s work carries that kind of rootedness, you feel it. My job was to make sure you could feel it in the imagery too. I worked with Heather to create the full suite of lifestyle photography and video to launch Lil & Dot England. It was one of those collaborations where everything just made sense from the beginning. The palette, the textures, the philosophy. Nature woven into every detail, and a maker who understood exactly what she had built and needed a photographer who understood it too.

Heather’s Perspective
“My brand shoot experience was fantastic. Rebecca is so friendly, professional and talented. She really put me at ease and helped to bring my vision to life.
I felt Rebecca truly listened to me, understood what I wanted from the shoot, and delivered over and above.
The images Rebecca captured for my brand are spot on. She knew exactly how the images and lighting should be to capture the feel of the brand.
The final images and videos have truly captured what I wanted my brand to feel like and are so professional. I could have never captured my products, myself, or my brand story in such a way. I will 100% be booking another shoot for my next launch.”

A Brand Built From Nature Up
The Work
Lil & Dot England is a brand with a clear creative philosophy: that a home should nurture your spirit, that beauty belongs in the everyday, and that the natural world is the most generous teacher of all. Heather’s hand-drawn illustrations are not decorative in the conventional sense. They are attentive. Each fern frond, each daisy head, each clover leaf carries the evidence of someone who sat with the plant and looked at it properly before putting pen to paper.
The brand palette, moss green, dusky blue, burgundy, ochre, midnight, reflects the seasons and the soil. The product range spans the whole of a home and a life: cushions and throws for the rooms where people rest, tea towels and aprons for the rooms where people gather, luxury silk sleep masks and bandanas for the moments that belong only to yourself.
Building a visual story around work like this requires the same quality of attention that made the work in the first place. The palette had to be honoured. The textures had to be felt. The lifestyle context had to feel inhabited rather than styled, as though these pieces had been chosen by real people for real homes rather than arranged for a camera.

The Process
The shoot planning began with the brand: its philosophy, its palette, its founder and the story she needed the imagery to tell. Heather came to the process with a clear sense of what Lil & Dot England should feel like, which is the most valuable thing a client can bring to a creative collaboration. My work was to translate that feeling into visual language that could carry it across every platform and every touchpoint of the brand’s launch.
We built the imagery around light that matched the warmth and softness of the palette. The product work needed to show the quality and craft of each piece in a way that a customer scrolling at a distance could feel before they reached the product page. The lifestyle sequences needed to place the pieces in moments that made sense of them: a morning ritual, a quiet afternoon, the particular comfort of a home that has been made with intention.
The video content was woven through the shoot to give Heather moving assets alongside the stills, bringing an additional dimension to a launch that needed to work across Instagram, her website and beyond.

What the Images Carry
The imagery from the Lil & Dot England shoot carries what Heather built into the brand itself: a quality of calm attention. The pieces are seen in the light they deserve. The palette reads as cohesive and intentional. The lifestyle context places these handmade, nature-inspired objects in the world of the person they were designed for.
For a brand launching into a market that already has plenty of homeware options, the imagery needed to do the work of communicating why Lil & Dot England is different. Hand-illustrated. Handmade in the UK. Named for two grandmothers. Designed from the kind of attention to the natural world that most of us have forgotten we are capable of. The images make that case without stating it, which is the only way visual storytelling actually works.
