Want to know more about night time photography?
A different kind of light painting arrives when we are graced with available darkness and start to capture the night.
This one-to-one night-time foundations session is designed for those who feel drawn to shoot photos after dark but want to build confidence, understanding and fluency before stepping fully into night-based photography or storytelling.
It is an invitation to slow down, tune in and learn how to work with the night rather than against it.
Night changes how we see, feel and sense the world. Light behaves differently. Time stretches. Attention deepens.
This session offers a grounded introduction to understanding darkness, celestial movement and night-time conditions so you can approach night photography with clarity and excitement.

1-2-1 mentoring
About the session
A guided, in-person learning experience focused on the foundations of taking photos after dark.
We will explore how the night sky, moon, atmosphere and light interact, and how to respond creatively and practically to those conditions.
This is not a formulaic photography lesson. It is an embodied introduction to night as a creative environment, rooted in observation, science and lived experience.
I lead the session in the field, working gently with available conditions on the night, whether that is moonlight, starlight, cloud movement or reflected coastal light.
Who this is for
This session is for you if:

You are curious about night-sky or low-light photography but feel unsure where to begin

You want to understand moon phases, stars and night conditions without overwhelm

You feel drawn to working after dark but want to build confidence safely and ethically

You are interested in night as a creative and sensory space, not just a technical challenge

You do not need advanced technical knowledge. You do need curiosity and a willingness to slow down.

What you will gain
With each session being bespoke, what you will gain will vary dependent on what we set out to explore together. Here are some examples of things you might gain by the end of the session:

A clear understanding of how moon phases affect light, shadow and mood

Confidence reading basic night-sky conditions and timing shoots accordingly

Practical insight into working safely after dark

A deeper relationship with darkness as a creative space rather than something to fear

Guidance on settings, kit considerations and simple workflows for night shooting

A felt sense of how night changes perception, attention and creativity

This session is as much about how to be in the night as it is about how to photograph it.
