‘Oh wow’ you hear me whisper on this reel on Instagram (click here), as the humpback whale surfaces. I was in awe as I’d been hoping one would fluke in epic alignment with the island behind.
I captured this video while volunteering in Sept 2022 with a wonderful charity called @whalewise. They aim to promote harmonious relationships between humans and whales through scientific research and public engagement.
This experience has forever etched itself on my heart, as I had the privilege to share space with these incredible marine mammals. As they surfaced, the depth of their breath created a connection like a resonant frequency felt in every fibre of my being. Before the trip I’d invested in the newly released GoPro Hero 11. It has a mount for the hot shoe on top of my camera where the flash usually sits so I was able to shoot video of these encounters as well as create images to share with you all.
Thanks to the expert guiding of @lakitours at Holmavik in the Westfjords of Iceland, these images became a reality. They are renowned for their sustainable sea tours, providing life-changing encounters with these majestic creatures of the blue planet. Special thanks to @ordinarystar for shining a spotlight on this amazing charity.
