Ramsgate Eastcliff: soft skies and soul-filled stillness – Locations in Thanet

Thanet, in East Kent, is a headland almost entirely surrounded by the sea. Bordered on three sides by coastline, with sweeping beaches that stretch from town to town. Just over an hour from London by train, it offers rich diversity for visual storytelling. Ramsgate’s Eastcliff is a gentle, lesser-known beach and perfect for slower, more introspective visual storytelling. It’s open and expansive, with an unhurried feel and soulful views back across the harbour.

I grew up here, watching light move across sea and sky, shaped by the rhythm of the tide and the stories the weather tells. It’s this connection to the land, the water and the in-between moments that forms the heart of my work.

What the landscape is like

Eastcliff sits just beyond Ramsgate’s main sands, accessed via a quiet path below the clifftop lawns. There’s a natural stillness to it. Framed by white chalk cliffs and the rhythmic curve of the tide, it feels more elemental than urban. Though it’s just minutes from the town.

The sand at Ramsgate Eastcliff is fine and pale, often patterned with seaweed and softened by salt spray. You can see out across the horizon, or look back toward Ramsgate’s harbour walls, creating a visual narrative of distance, reflection and return.

It’s ideal for brands who want a quieter, more thoughtful energy. Ramsgate Eastcliff is a place to visually express space, simplicity and grounded beauty.

Light and tide

The beach at Ramsgate Eastcliff faces east, so sunrise brings a glow that spills across the sand and low chalk. On bright days, light reflects off the cliffs creating a natural softbox effect. Gentle, diffuse and flattering for portraits or product-led work.

At low tide, the beach stretches out into ripples of sand and mirror-like shallows. At high tide, it becomes more contained and introspective, with water lapping close to the cliffs.

Ramsgate Eastcliff is especially beautiful on overcast days. When the muted palette and wide-open skies create space for subtle emotion and elemental detail.

About me

Hey my love, I’m Rebecca. A visual storyteller, unleashing the power of photo and video to rewilding our connection to nature. I am also an AuDHD – an autistic ADHDer.

By illuminating the liminal space where myth, magick and intellect meet, we ignite collective curiosity, enchantment and awe to empower the healing of people and planet.

My work as a photographer and ocean storyteller has taken me from the wild coasts of Scotland to the wild edges of Iceland.

It was with immense gratitude and a sense of deepening purpose that a story I captured gain 2nd Place in the Conservation (Impact) category for Ocean Photographer of the Year 2024.

As President of the Board of Trustees for Whale Wise and a Marine Mammal Medic with BDMLR, I advocate for our blue planet through powerful visuals and purpose-driven narratives.

Together, let’s embrace the wild edges where of people, place, and planet meet.
