Scotland invites you to step over a threshold
Here we celebrate Scotland wildlife and lifestyle photography in all it’s glory. Scotland is a paradise for photographers and storytellers alike, where the most expansive journeys unfold when you surrender to exploring nature and knowing you’re part of nature.
Scotland invites you to step over a threshold, that wild edge where in doing so, magick can unfold when we let nature lead the way. There are approximately 790 islands and 6,000 miles of coastline and life is lived in tune with nature. Where the ebb and flow of the tide shapes the rugged cliffs and white sand beaches.
As a result, the clear seas are alive with resident whale and dolphin populations. The Scottish Islands also have spectacular visibility for snorkelling and diving, as well as the many skerries that makes for interesting sites to paddle board. All of the above, as well as many other reasons are why I find Scotland such an amazing place, especially for water lovers to adventure.
It is a land where peaks meet the sea and Scotland is home to 282 Munros which are mountains over 3,000 feet. As well as numerous other peaks and summits that offer breathtaking views and challenging hikes.
The polarity of the seasons is vast
The polarity of the cyclical rhythm of the year is so easy to witness in Scotland. However, the variation in daylight hours between seasons brings up to 18 hours of daylight, allowing for extended shooting opportunities. As opposed to the winter days that can have as few as 6 hours of light and as a result, creates dramatic and atmospheric conditions.
Scotland is also known for dreich weather and the drama that this can bring. Where rain clouds can give way to spots of sunlight bursting through and creating some utterly spectacular scenes. I’ll take that kind of weather over clear skies every single time!
At night, if you’re graced with clear skies, there are some utterly breathtaking dark spots to marvel at The Milky Way and if you’re lucky the aurora borealis can be witnessed August – May. In midsummer, you can also experience our highest atmospheric clouds and these noctilucent clouds can be witnessed and shining bright across the dusky summer sky.

Once upon a time in Sheffield at a uni swing band rehearsal, a tall Scottish lad looked at a seat next to a girl with a tenor sax and asked, ‘Is this seat free?’ ‘Yes,’ she beamed. And this moment marked their journey together, forevermore.
For the first decade of our relationship, we mainly visited family in the central belt and gradually started to explore the Highlands near Glasgow. However, as the years have gone by, we have explored deeper into the Highlands and have taken to the seas to explore the islands. I adore this part of the world so much.

Light chasing at Eshaness – Shetland Islands
We’ve hiked Ben Nevis, paddle boarded around Skye and Wester Ross and seen the aurora and noctilucent clouds. We’ve also had dolphins flank our ferry to Skye and motorhomed around the NC500. As well as wild swim with jellyfish and enjoyed some special moments close to stags one winter in Glen Etive.
