The Peak District

The Peak District has always held a special place in my heart. My love affair with this breathtaking landscape began during my university years in Sheffield. A place where the greenest city in the UK meets the open landscape of The Peaks. Those years were marked by countless adventures spent exploring the rolling hills and woodlands that lined vast reservoirs that define this extraordinary region.

After university, I made Sheffield my home for several more years. In doing so, allowing me to deepen my connection with the Peak District. Among my favourite spots are Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge, each of which offer spectacular views. Standing atop these edges, with the sun setting has always brought a profound sense of perspective.

This has got to be witnessing the sunrise at Mam Tor. As the first light of day breaks over the horizon, illuminating the quaint village of Castleton below. The landscape transforms as light paints and shadows fall across the valley.

Interestingly, although called the Peak District, there are no classic craggy summits in the area, with Kinder Scout being the highest peak at 636m.

The Ladybower Reservoir, with its seemingly endless expanse of water, is another favourite spot. Whether enveloped in the mist of a quiet morning or sparkling under the midday sun, the reservoir offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s a place where I’ve often found myself lost in thought, camera in hand, capturing the ever-changing moods of the water and sky.
