A place that I’ve called home
Half way between Thanet and my heart home of Scotland, lies Yorkshire. The UK’s largest county and one I called home for 7 years.
But truth be told, I believe home is an inside job and Yorkshire is part of my beating heart because I’m a quarter ‘Yorkshire’, as my Grandad grew up in Driffield! Spending three epic years as a geography undergrad at The University of Sheffield, this is where I met my husband. I also lived in the city of steel for 7 years. So, it’s not surprising Yorkshire is somewhere I adore spending time.

Yorkshire holds so much of my story
‘Is that seat free?’ was a question that changed my life in 2005.
Once upon a time back in 2005, the Uni of Sheffield Big Band was meeting for the first rehearsal of a new year. A girl was sat with her tenor sax sorting music on her stand and a Scottish voice asked her ‘is this seat free?’ She turned to see a tall guy asking and she beamed ‘yes it’s free.’ However, little did they know this moment was the start of their unfolding love story.
Finishing my geography degree and deciding to stay in Sheffield with friends studying Masters, I got a job in recruitment and a pal said to come along to big band again and this was the night I met Mark. A few weeks after the first rehearsal, Mark and I went on our first date to the iconic Leadmill. Though as the story goes, we got kicked out because a band with a sold out gig was on, therefore we ended up in Flares on West Street – classy! As midnight struck, Mark told me it was his birthday and it would be the best present if I’d be his girlfriend. And the rest is history……
Seven years in the City of Steel
We married by the sea in 2007 and lived in Sheffield until 2009 while Mark was working away on his PhD. Sheffield is such an amazing place and I miss it most in autumn and winter. The memories of the leaves turning to fall and giving way to the most amazing snow on those steep hills of Crookes and Walkley! One of the most memorable nights was seeing Tinsley Towers fall, as well as those milestones on so many journeys to Sheffield and Yorkshire. Earlier that day I’d bought my first dSLR and my passion for photography getting a little more serious. However, little did I know what that would become! Moving to the south in 2009, back to my motherland of Ramsgate, both of us growing up by the sea and missing coastal life, so our time in the city of steel grew to a close.

I love capturing Yorkshire lifestyle and travel photography. The Yorkshire coast is stunning and includes the majestic Bempton Cliffs, home to one of the largest seabird colonies in the UK.
Experiencing Bempton Cliffs from the sea is a breathtaking adventure. As you approach across the waves, the towering white cliffs rise dramatically from the water as you’re greeted by the sight of thousands of birds. From puffins to gannets witness them nesting, chattering and launching themselves off the cliff and into the water to feed.
Watching birds soar and dive against the backdrop of the rugged cliffs is nothing short of mesmerising. The perspective from the sea offers a unique and awe-inspiring view, so different than the one you get from land. The cliffs and the fault lines are a humbling reminder of the power and beauty of the natural world. It is somewhere I am forever excited about spending time.
