Case study – Swallowtail Hill
immersive seasonal shooting sharing
the story of nature connected stays
Visual storytelling for purpose-led accommodation hosts
Overview
I’ve worked with Swallowtail Hill since 2017. An incredible farm in Sussex with nature and conservation at the heart. They offer unique stays in their quirky accommodation, nestled in 40 acres of wildflower meadows and woodland. Swallowtail Hill is a special place and has such different experiences in each season and I’ve worked with the owners to share that magic by capturing accommodation photography, from high summer to frozen winters. The owners have extensive careers in marketing and have used these images across press and PR and within the local chamber of commerce to promote tourism and support the visitor economy in this rural area.

‘Rebecca quite simply gets us – she listens deeply to what we’re trying to achieve as a business, she understands our brand values, she recognises the atmosphere we work hard at creating for all of our guests – and then with great skill, she captures all of that.’

the process
Sarah’s perspective

A picture paints a thousand words, so the adage goes. But it couldn’t be truer for my business – how else do you sell a special place to stay?! My potential guests need to fall in love with Swallowtail Hill and want to book. It’s not as straightforward as having ‘good photos’. It isn’t just about making our accommodation look great and capturing the landscape in good light. It’s about something much bigger than this and I mean it without wishing to sound esoteric!
Rebecca quite simply gets us – she listens deeply to what we’re trying to achieve as a business, she understands our brand values, she recognises the atmosphere we work hard at creating for all of our guests – and then with great skill, she captures all of that.
As a business owner it’s a difficult path to navigate, ensuring your creative brief is truly understood and trusting that it will be interpreted accurately and with style and sensitivity – after all it’s your baby and you’re protective of it!
But working with Rebecca doesn’t feel that way at all – she feels like one of the team because she is one of the team. She isn’t trying to stamp her own personality on the work, she’s working with you in the most instinctive way to ensure her creativity meets your vision perfectly. And it does – every time. We love the process of working with her and we love that her work continues to tell our story as it unfolds.

Deliverables
For Swallowtail Hill, I co-crafted a seasonally attuned visual narrative. Capturing the evolving beauty of the landscape across the shifting season of the year.
This long-form storytelling approach to accommodation photography allowed us to document the land as it bloomed, rested, and transformed. Ensuring that every image reflected the deep connection between place and season.
Across photography and drone work, I focused on the interplay of light, texture, and atmosphere. From the soft pastels of spring’s first awakenings to the golden hues of autumn’s quiet retreat. The deliverables included a comprehensive suite of visuals designed to immerse guests in the essence of Swallowtail Hill. Showcasing not just the accommodations, but the entire experience of being held by nature in this rewilded retreat.
