The Art of Letting Go: How Shedding Helps Us Grow

As I write this on the eve of the Aries full moon, I can’t help but feel the potent energy of this moment. The Aries full moon, always a significant one for me, holds the kind of illumination that forces me to look at what needs to be released. This is the first full moon of autumn, and it feels particularly poignant. It lights up the sky and, metaphorically, the areas of my life that no longer serve me. It calls for action, a shedding of what is holding me back, so I can make space for personal growth. Aries, a sign driven by doing rather than dwelling, reminds us that in order to move forward, we have to let go.

How the Full Moon in Aries illuminates the need for letting go

For me, this shedding looked like a late-night session with Trello. It is funny how Trello creeps up on you. Initially I was like no thanks and then rapidly it has become my obsession! I use Trello to organise all of my ideas, my many many ideas (!!!!), from projects to creative dreaming and scheming, and everything in between. I know, rock and roll, right?! Finding myself archiving old boards, letting go of the ideas that no longer align with my journey. There’s something deeply symbolic about moving on from what wasn’t meant for me. It’s not just about clearing space, but actively making room for what is meant to grow. It’s a process of stepping into the doing and embracing the ideas I’m nurturing behind the scenes.

The power of shedding in business and life

But this isn’t just about work. Personally, this season of shedding has been transformative. It’s the end of an era in many ways. As I continue to learn and embrace who I am as someone with ADHD and autism. This understanding of myself has been a key to unlocking so much that I’ve held onto for far too long. Letting go of old narratives, expectations, and even relationships that no longer feel aligned has been nothing short of emancipating. It feels like a rewilding of my soul, truly knowing who I am, why I am here and what I am meant to be doing.

Aligning with nature: how shedding deepens purpose and impact

When we think about storytelling – especially storytelling with purpose and impact – it becomes clear that we cannot hold onto everything. We have to align our soul’s journey with our purpose in order to make space for true impact. This alignment only happens when we release what’s not meant for us. The full moon and the start of autumn always feel like a time of deepening my connection to nature and, through that, to my purpose.

Why letting go is essential for personal growth

Just as the trees shed their leaves in preparation for new growth, we too must let go of what’s no longer serving us. It’s in the space we create that new ideas, new visions, and deeper impact can truly flourish. Shedding is not a loss; it’s an invitation for personal growth. A necessary step in our journey toward a more purposeful and impactful life.

Reflecting on what you need to shed this autumn

As this full moon illuminated questions for me, I thought I’d share some with you and I invite you to reflect on what you need to shed as we move into autumn.

What are you holding onto that’s preventing you from fully stepping into your purpose?

What do you need to release in order to grow?

Let this season, this moon, guide you in that process of personal growth. Only then can we align with the rhythm of nature, deepening our connection to source and for I truly believe when you’re open, the stories we need to hear and tell will have a way of finding us.

This is where true impact happens. In the shedding, in the letting go, in the space we create for our most authentic selves to emerge. As I move forward into autumn, I do so with a lightness. Ready to embrace the journey ahead, deeply connected to the earth, the Cosmos and the stories yet to unfold.
