Minnis Bay: wide skies and tidal stillness – Locations in Thanet
Thanet is a peninsula in East Kent, surrounded by sea on three sides. Its coastline holds multitudes — wild chalk cliffs, tidal bays, golden sands and coastal towns filled with light and stories. Just 75 minutes from London by train or road, it’s a place that feels both remote and deeply connected. Minnis Bay, on the northwest edge of Thanet, feels especially spacious.
It’s calm, unhurried and expansive. The kind of place where the light lingers and the tide seems to breathe. Minnis Bay is perfect for brands and creatives looking to root their stories in place, presence and quiet power. This is where I grew up. These shorelines shaped me. The long tides, quiet thresholds and dance of earth, sea and sky are the heartbeat of my work as a photographer and visual storyteller.

What the landscape is like
Minnis Bay is a long, open stretch of coast with firm golden sand, patterned by tide lines and salt-carved textures. The beach backs onto a low seawall and grassland, with uninterrupted views. Stretching out toward Reculver and the Isle of Sheppey.
At low tide, vast sand flats are revealed. Mirror-like in winter, softly glowing in summer. Minnis Bay is a place that feels open and grounding. Ideal for drone work, barefoot portraits, windswept brand shoots and imagery that holds space to breathe.
Light and tide
Facing west, Minnis Bay is a sunset beach, offering long golden light and dramatic skies. The horizon feels endless. Especially at low tide, where wet sand reflects every cloud and colour in the sky.
Tidal changes are dramatic at Minnis Bay. Low tide opens the bay wide, perfect for walking, exploring or expansive wide-angle compositions. High tide brings the sea close to the wall, with a gentler, more intimate feel.
This location is at its most magical in golden hour. Minnis Bay also holds subtle beauty in overcast light, where tone and texture take centre stage.

Accessibility and facilities
- Access: Flat promenade, ideal for all mobility needs
- Parking: Free and pay-and-display options close to the beach
- Facilities: Toilets, small cafés, seasonal kiosk and local pub nearby
- Dogs: Restricted May–Sept, 10am–6pm (but quieter ends of the beach often more flexible)
Its ease of access and long sightlines make Minnis Bay ideal for shoots that need space, simplicity and flexibility.

About me
Hey my love, I’m Rebecca. A visual storyteller, unleashing the power of photo and video to rewilding our connection to nature. I am also an AuDHD – an autistic ADHDer.
By illuminating the liminal space where myth, magick and intellect meet, we ignite collective curiosity, enchantment and awe to empower the healing of people and planet.
My work as a photographer and ocean storyteller has taken me from the wild coasts of Scotland to the wild edges of Iceland.
It was with immense gratitude and a sense of deepening purpose that a story I captured gain 2nd Place in the Conservation (Impact) category for Ocean Photographer of the Year 2024.
As President of the Board of Trustees for Whale Wise and a Marine Mammal Medic with BDMLR, I advocate for our blue planet through powerful visuals and purpose-driven narratives.
Together, let’s embrace the wild edges where of people, place, and planet meet.
